Active Bodies at New Chelsea!
Hey New Chelsea Friends and Family!!!
We are getting excited about our new playground and all the new ways that our kids will have to play! As adults, we know how much play matters for our growing kids because it helps their muscle development, helps keep their hearts strong, and they get to let off some energy!
Before we get our playground, we wanted kids to realize how their hearts work when they exercise so we created an Active Bodies Spirit Week. They check their heart rate before the activity and then again right after. Some of the teachers have had the kids do some deep breathing exercises to help calm their hearts down. Even our kindergarten friends understand that their heart rate increases when they do an activity, and it slows down when they take deep breaths!
Yesterday, they ran in place for 30 seconds. Today they did as many jumping jacks as they could in 30 seconds. Thursday, the kids will hop like a frog. On Friday the kids will do a “Star Jump” and as they jump up they will say, “I’m a star!”
Tonight, challenge your child to see who can run the longest in place, do the most jumping jacks, frog hops, or star hops! Ask them to check your heart rate and tell you what it feels like before the activity and then again afterwards. Get creative! Mix it up! Try sit-ups, dancing, basketball, whatever sounds fun! Get out and a new activity!
